Nurturing the Writer Within

Did you know that stress affects short-term memory?  Knowing that now, it comes as no surprise to me that after juggling full time work @ my job & in my home, a nugget of inspiration left alone during the day becomes a ghost of a thought tickling my neurons by the time I am actually ready to sit with it & write.  I've learned that I have to carry a journal with me always to capture those fleeting thoughts that circle my brain like a whirlwind.  Yet this isn't enough.  I need to pamper my creative self through drinking in flavors of books, art, cafe's, festivals, etc. and I need to take care of the physical shell as well (an area I'm sadly lacking!).  Right now I'm thinking bubble baths and pedicures!
What do you do to nurture your writer within?

  1. ...in keeping the hours demanded of me at the cursed dayjob, I have an entire desk drawer filled with scribblings and revisions...on the company's dime. Because when there's no time...you make time when striving for the cause:)

    Glad I stopped by:)

  2. I start another Google document and tap out my thoughts. I seldom write by hand anymore. Thanks for the follow.

  4. Well - that explains why I forget my words mid-sentence!!! Maybe when all my guys leave the nest, I'll be able to complete a coherent sentence!!! I have learned I need to write my thoughts down - to just grab them, stop and put them somewhere safe!!! I think a bath and a pedicure sound marvelous!

  5. Well I definitely can't write like you! LOL I'm looking to get my thoughts across in a sentence that is grammatically correct and not too many misspelled words!

Thanks for linking up at Relax & Surf Sunday

  8. Walking in the woods with my dogs and reading a wonderful novel (it's a great escape from my reality) ... I've found these are the best ways to nurture my soul. Hope you find ways to de-stress too!

  9. When I get an inspiration, I will get my notes down on my notepad app. Sometimes when I need a break, I just unplug like I do in my blog post: http://my-own-inspiration.blogspot.com/2010/08/5-ways-to-rest-retreat-and-recharge.html.
